Bermagui Seasiders Inc Fundraising Raffle | RaffleLink

From New Year’s Eve 2019 the NSW far south coast was threatened by bushfires for nine weeks. Bermagui was surrounded by fires that came right to its door step. The community was evacuated several times, businesses suffered enormous losses. After a brief few weeks reprieve, the town is now impacted by COVID-19 restrictions.

Since 1998 Bermagui Seasiders has staged the annual Bermagui Seaside Fair with significant support every year from local businesses. From 2014 to 2018, the Fair included Umbrellas of Bermagui which auctioned handcrafted 2.7 metre shade umbrellas, enabling Bermagui Seasiders to donate over $40,000 to local junior sports clubs. Now, Seasiders is turning the table, giving back to those who helped ensure the Fair’s long success. Local artists have reunited and, with a twist, Umbrellas FOR Bermagui is raising funds to assist the town’s recovery. This is your opportunity to contribute, and a chance to own one of five unique and magnificent umbrellas, true works of art.

Tickets are priced at $5 each, 2 tickets for $10, 4 tickets for $20, 10 tickets for $50, 20 tickets for $100, 50 tickets for $250, 100 tickets for $500

1st Prize valued at $1,000

“Phoenix Rising from the Ashes” – handcrafted 2.7 metre shade umbrella by local artist Michelle Dedlefs

About the Umbrella: This umbrella represents the hope and knowledge that even though times are troubled everything will ‘regenerate’; hope that lessons learned will lead to change for the better for all. The phoenix represents the renewal of life, love and hope out of the ashes of disaster. We are a resilient species.

About the Artist: Michelle has been playing and sewing with thread, fibre and fabric since she was 5 years old. She enjoys the creative outlet provided by thread and fibre. Michelle owns the patchwork shop in Bermagui and loves the inspiration it provides.

Prize Delivery: included.

2nd Prize valued at $1,000

“Natural Wonders” – handcrafted 2.7 metre shade umbrella by local artist Helen Morris

About the Umbrella: The renewal of our lost natural treasures of flora and fauna with regrowth and rebirth, regenerating our forests and landscape, helping to overcome the devastation of the natural beauty we all enjoy, love and embrace.

About the Artist: Helen is a visual artist and printmaker from Bermagui on the NSW far south coast. Nature in all forms is a passion of hers which is in abundance in our beautiful coastal paradise. She is a practising artist with a group who run the Shop7 ArtSpace at the Bermagui Fishermen’s Wharf.

3rd Prize valued at $1,000

“Carmel” (definition garden, plantation) – handcrafted 2.7 metre shade umbrella by local artist Lyn Moore

About the Umbrella: Flowers bloom into a vast array of brightness and colour and produce new life, strength, happiness, celebration and faith. Plants provide nectar attracting wildlife and insects which regenerate.

About the Artist: Lyn has been painting for about 15 years. The spectacular far south coast of NSW never ceases to inspire her to paint, creating beautiful art.

Prize Delivery: included.

4th Prize valued at $1,000

“Regeneration” – handcrafted 2.7 metre shade umbrella by local artist Sue Swensson

About the Umbrella: There is a resilience in the character of Australians, a strength in adversity and generosity of spirit. This is reflected in our native forests which over millennia have adapted to our harsh and unpredictable conditions. Seemingly dead, blackened tree trunks become covered in fresh young growth over a very short time. The hardest of seed pods respond to smoke and heat, bursting open releasing their seeds, ready to germinate. Herbs and grass seeds dormant in the soil wait for the first rains to cover the scorched earth.

About the Artist: Sue has been painting for many years and finds that it allows her to combine her passions of observing the natural environment, bushwalking, bird watching and gardening.

Prize Delivery: included.

5th Prize valued at $1,000

“Beanstalk” – handcrafted 2.7 metre shade umbrella by local artist Lenore Thompson

About the Umbrella: Our vegetable garden had languished due to drought and following good rain earlier in the year, began to flourish. Dormant, self-sown purple beans emerged. Their leaves are heart shaped, solar collectors, with many crenulations. The colours of purple bean pods, green leaves and bright pink flowers twine up the trellis, reaching for the light. In times of trial, as we are experiencing now, there can be encouragement from the seeds of the beans to nourish the potential contained in our shared creative humanity.

About the Artist: For many years Lenore has been intrigued with the presence of light and colour in everything she sees – land and seascapes, trees, plants, seeds and insects.

Prize Delivery: included.
